Title: “You’re a real teacher aren’t you.”

Abstract

Much of the literature on first year students’ experience of tertiary education points to two key issues that have a positive effect on that experience: A friendly and supportive environment; and sympathetic staff who are available to help and guide the students. In line with Lowe and Cook’s (2003, p.75) comment that “Induction should be seen as a process not an event”, students enrolled in one of the most popular first year subjects (Law and Society) are offered workshops for the duration of first semester. The idea of this “nuts and bolts’ session is to explicate my aims and strategies for these workshops and to promote discussion
