Title: Helping students through the administrative maze

Dianne Hagan

Abstract

One of the most daunting aspects of enrolling at university for the first time is performing the relevant administration tasks. These include filling in the application form, choosing elective units, applying for credit for previous studies, enrolling in units, and enrolling in tutorials. Many students become confused, and mistakes can cause them to miss classes in the first week or two, or even to make invalid choices that cannot be counted towards their degrees. In order to make life easier for students and staff, and to reduce the time spent in individual consultations, our degree program has a website that makes available many resources such as course maps, specialisation lists, and links to timetables, unit offerings, unit websites and faculty handbooks. This website is also used to respond to questions and feedback from students.
