Title: Multicultural Competence of First Year Experience Instructors: Enhancing the Transition to Higher Education

Abstract
As a result of the global and demographic trends, this research study focused on multicultural competence. This Power Point poster session and summary paper highlights a research project that describes the multicultural knowledge, awareness, and skills of “First Year Experience” college instructors at a predominantly white institution in the mid-western region of the United States of America. A mixed methods approach provided rich data. The research results of this study implicates the need for training and development in multicultural competence for instructors that can enhance the first year experience for all students in general and for students of color in particular.
