Transitions @ Carseldine

This session (3.30-5.00pm Thursday) will provide insights into two programs that have engaged specifically with career planning as aspects of successful transition.

The first program examines the work of the Northern Corridor Education Precinct (NCEP) and the development of a community of practice that utilises the Australian Blueprint for Careers Development to assist senior school students in clarifying their future education goals. At issue here are the processes by which students can be supported in the career choices and appropriate pathways to higher education identified. (See abstract from Wayne Delaforce, QUT).

The second program examines the Transition to University Workshops that are available to all first year students in the week prior to orientation. As a result of student survey data, this workshop includes a module on career planning which enables participants to acknowledge the uncertainties about course choices and reflect on their underlying values and motivations in considering their future careers. (See abstract from Williamson and Thorne, QUT).

Participants will be invited to engage in activities and discussion in relation to the two programs.
