Mapping the Future of Enabling Education: Collaborative Research for a Connected Sector

Enabling Education in Australia has developed into a mature and distinctive field, grounded in a strong commitment to access, equity, and student success. As the sector evolves, there is a growing opportunity to work more intentionally across institutions to strengthen the coherence, visibility, and collective impact of Enabling research.
As part of the STARS Network Constellations, this session offers a creative and forward-looking space for Enabling educators and researchers to connect, challenge assumptions, and co-create possibilities for the future of the field. Through a collaborative mapping activity, participants will explore shared research interests, institutional contexts, and partnership opportunities. Together, they will identify common priorities and potential cross-institutional projects that can advance the scholarship and practice of Enabling Education nationally.
A key outcome will be the development of a proposal for a special issue of a leading journal in the field, providing a tangible pathway for collaborative research and publication emerging from this constellation.
This session will appeal to Enabling educators, researchers, and institutional leaders seeking to strengthen the sector’s collective research identity and contribute to a united, strategic agenda for advancing Enabling Education in Australia.

Jonathan Green is Associate Professor (Pathways) at UniSQ and Editor-in-Chief of the newly launched Journal of Pathways Education and Research. His work focuses on Enabling Education, widening participation, and pathways to higher education, with a particular interest in developing quality frameworks and national collaboration across the sector. Jonathan has led significant initiatives advancing the scholarly recognition of Enabling Education, including the development of a national capability-based framework and contributions to research on access, transition, and student success. He is a long-standing executive member of the National Association of Enabling Educators of Australia (NAEEA) and a regular contributor to sector research and leadership forums.
